RFSA Hosts Coffee Hour on Campus for Cal Poly Retirees

Nov 16, 2021

On Monday, November 15, 2021, the Cal Poly Retired Faculty and Staff Association hosted its first coffee hour for Cal Poly retirees and their guests on campus at the Dairy innovations Institute.

Lisa Hensley, RFSA Board member and Coffee Hour Facilitator, and RFSA President Bill Kellogg organized the event to bring retirees together for coffee, breakfast pastries, and informal conversation. Everyone got the chance to introduce themselves and share highlights of their Cal Poly careers and retirement activities. We also heard from Katy Pankey, manager of the Cal Poly Creamery, about what the Creamery has to offer and the cheese gift boxes available for purchase.

The RFSA hopes to host a coffee hour every month, and all retirees are welcome. For more information about upcoming coffee hours, send an email Lisa Hensley.

Multi-Factor Authentication Now Required for Emeriti Use of Cal Poly Portal

Oct 25, 2021

For over a year now, Cal Poly has been using multi factor authentication for faculty, staff, and students. This method for accessing web-based resources is now being extended to emeritus faculty and staff. This authentication process will increase the security of the Cal Poly portal, and as a result the email, calendar, address information, and other personal information for emeritus users of the portal will be more secure in the future.

On December 6, Cal Poly will begin requiring emeriti to verify their identities using multi-factor authentication (MFA) when logging into web-based university resources that require a Cal Poly username and password. MFA is a commonly used security method requiring two or more forms of identity verification to access a particular resource. In most cases, an MFA user first provides their username and password (one form of authentication), then follows a prompt to send a code by telephone or text to their mobile device (second form of authentication). It’s commonly used with accounts containing sensitive or private information, like email or online banking.

Cal Poly has been using an MFA application called Duo since 2019, and it has been required for students, faculty, and staff since December 2020. Using MFA is now standard practice at most universities, including all 23 California State University campuses. Emeriti are encouraged to learn more about Duo MFA and get set up before the December 6 deadline by visiting tech.calpoly.edu/services/mfa-duo. If you're new to MFA, the FAQ page at bit.ly/mfafaq is a good place to start. The Service Desk is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to assist you and answer any questions. You can contact them online via Support Center or call 805-756-7000.

Emeritus Parking on Campus

Oct 25, 2021

As a reminder, if you plan to park a vehicle on the campus, you should keep your license plate information up to date on the portal. The location for updating your license plate information has been moved from the homepage of the portal to https://calpoly.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal. At this location on the portal, you will need to select “Manage Account”, log into the portal if you haven't done so already, select the vehicle tab, and then update your vehicle information. All emeritus faculty and staff members may park their vehicle on campus, without charge, if the vehicle is registered on the portal. If you become employed on the campus, you will need a parking permit.

You are invited!!  Yes, we are excited and ready to host our first Coffee Hour social! It will be held on the Cal Poly campus at the Dairy Innovation Center on Monday, November 15, at 9:00 a.m. Hosting a Coffee Hour social once a month is something new for our association. There is no cost associated with this event.

There is ample parking and easy access at the Dairy Innovation Center located at the Cal Poly Dairy Unit.  We will be using the Center’s nice conference room for our gathering.

We request you RSVP to LHensley@calpoly.edu, as space is limited and we need an accurate headcount for the refreshments.

June Jubilee Postponed

Jul 6, 2021

Our Summer Jubilee was ALMOST back. Usually held in June, this year's Jubilee -- Cal Poly's annual tribute to retired faculty and staff -- was going to be August 21. But then the Delta variant reared its ugly head. It was going to be an "in-person" celebration just like in the years before the pandemic. The University was ready to make this happen, but your RFSA Board decided with great regret, and with everyone's safety in mind, that now is not the time to hold an indoor event.

The University and your RFSA Board are going back to the drawing board with the hope of planning a Holiday Jubilee in December.  A big thank-you to President and Mrs. Armstrong and the donor relations and alumni engagement staff (and our RFSA President Bill Kellogg) for all their efforts to celebrate our retired faculty and staff. We'll announce more information about time and place later this year, and we look forward eagerly to seeing many, many retired members of the Cal Poly community at this joyous, albeit postponed, event.
